WHY IT MATTERS
To see the most devastating effects of our current economic distress, just look at the children of those families hardest hit. With higher unemployment, more homelessness, parents working multiple jobs and families struggling just to survive, their children’s basic social and emotional needs often fall into the void. And this void erodes children’s hope for the future, sometimes even rendering them physiologically incapable of learning until their needs can be met. The fact is, too many children were vulnerable even before the recession hit.
These children need someone who can be present at the critical time in their lives when values are formed, when self-esteem is developed, and when basic academic and problem-solving skills are acquired. Someone who won’t let them down. You can be the one.
