  • Becoming a KHUSA Church

“I want to make a difference, but I don’t know how.”

This is the deep longing of many church members today. They already have exactly what their neighborhoods need most: abundant love. All they need is an organized system to train and sustain them in a partnership with their neighborhood school. KIDS HOPE USA taps into the motives, means and commitment of churches to love the children.

KIDS HOPE USA churches, already active in their neighborhood schools, are proving their faithfulness as mentors and behind-the-scenes prayer partners in the lives of children every day, while fully respecting the separation of church and state.

KHUSA will provide the agenda and materials church leaders need for a meeting with the principal of their neighborhood public elementary school. This will help frame the discussion with the school regarding the potential for a partnership.

Church leaders and members also need to look within their own organization to ensure they are ready to meet the commitments of this critical partnership. Questions that need to be considered include:

    • Can we strictly adhere to the separation of church and state?
    • Can we recruit at least 10 but not more than 15 mentors and 2 substitutes before the program begins?
    • Can we identify a behind-the-scenes prayer partner for each adult-child relationship?
    • Can we involve a pastor as a mentor or a prayer partner to demonstrate that the church has made a firm commitment?
    • Can we assume financial responsibility for the following expenses?
      • Affiliate fee to help cover the costs of the required training courses
      • Annual program budget
    • Can we commit to one school?
    • Can we evaluate our program annually and share this information with the National Office?

If your church is ready to make this commitment of faith to a KIDS HOPE USA church-school partnership, KIDS HOPE USA is ready to welcome you into the fold.

Church leadership then signs an Affiliate Agreement with KIDS HOPE USA and commits to a one-time Affiliate fee, based on size of the church’s membership, payable over 12 months. The church is then ready to recruit and select its Director, who will be fully trained to launch the program.
